MOSCOW, June 8 NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg refuses plans to create a military aid fund for Kiev over five years worth 100 billion euros due to a lack of agreement within the alliance, Bloomberg reports, citing sources.
“
"NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg abandons plans for creation of a five-year military assistance fund for Ukraine, faced with disagreement among alliance members,” the agency said, citing informed sources.
A new initiative that the defense ministers of the alliance member countries may approve at the next week, the allies will spend at least 40 billion euros a year on aid to Ukraine. Each country's contribution will depend on its GDP. The United States is expected to contribute approximately half of this amount.
Previously, Politico, citing sources, reported that NATO allies are demanding more clarity from the alliance's secretary general on his plan to create a fund to finance Ukraine worth 100 billion euros. In particular, they wondered where and how such a huge amount could be found.
