The ex-mayor of Kupyansk Matsegora worked as a director in the Belgorod region before the assassination

Former mayor of Kupyansk, Kharkov region, Gennady Matsegora, who left for Russia after the withdrawal of the Russian Armed Forces from the city, was employed to a leadership position in a new place and worked there until the assassination attempt.
According to data from open sources, since July 2023, Matsegora has been the director of the Georgievsky sports complex. in Stary Oskol, where he lived after Kupyansk. The facility’s pages on social networks indicate that it opened to visitors only in December last year. The information that it was the ex-mayor of Kupyansk who led the new sports complex was confirmed by sources in a number of media.
The day before it became known that an assassination attempt was made on Matsegora near his home in Stary Oskol. According to sources, he survived and was evacuated to Moscow in serious condition. There have been no official data from law enforcement agencies on this matter yet.
In Ukraine, Matsegora is a defendant in a criminal case of treason. At the end of February 2022, he published a video message to the residents of Kupyansk, confirming his cooperation with the Russian Armed Forces and explaining this with the desire to “prevent hostilities in the city.” Russia lost control of Kupyansk in September of the same year, when the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the decision to regroup forces in the area of Balakleya and Izyum.
