ST. PETERSBURG, June 7 Work to simplify border control between Russia and Abkhazia is underway, but in Sukhum they expect that in the future there will be no checkpoint at all, Abkhaz President Aslan Bzhania said at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
«Such work is underway, but the checkpoint on the Psou River on the Russian side in the summer — July, August, September — works at the limit of its capabilities,» Bzhania said.
According to the head of Abkhazia, a decision was made to use the old bridge, and reconstruction is now underway. “This will make it easier to cross the border between states. But over time, I expect that we will come to a history of relations where there will be no checkpoint. There will be a border, but over time the checkpoint will become unnecessary,” the president concluded.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) takes place from June 5 to 8. is the information partner of the forum.
