Experts believe that there are no more physicists and lyricists: digitalization is entering all spheres of life
The labor market is changing by leaps and bounds. Professions are dying, including prestigious ones, without which 5-10 years ago it was impossible to imagine society. At the same time, more and more new specialties are appearing, combining the humanities and exact sciences. Experts discussed this topic at a press conference at RIA Novosti.
— Not so long ago, you and I regularly went to banks, and now everyone – “I am my own banker thanks to applications on my phone,” says Angela Dolzhikova, director of the Russian Language Institute at the Patrice Lumumba Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia. – It’s hard not to notice that the number of branches of the forms has sharply decreased, and at the same time a huge layer of people who worked in them have left.
In essence, the bank operator – a profession that has not yet disappeared, but is fading, continues Angela Dolzhikova and gives the example of another fading occupation:
— We in the professional community argue about what the fate of translators will be. Young people actively use Google, and there are fewer and fewer translators on excursions. In general, the lion's share of people working in this specialty have already lost or will lose their jobs in the near future. But – unique professionals involved, in particular, in complex translation, will be in demand for decades to come. However, there are only a few of them now…
In general, it’s better for young Russians to forget about banking and translation. Finally and irrevocably. And switch to more promising specialties. It is predicted that within five years, exotic professions will become extremely popular.
These include, firstly, a virtual world designer: a specialist who creates a fictional reality into which the user is immersed using immersive headsets, VR glasses or simulators; salary – from 200 thousand rubles per month. In second place is the digital archivist: an expert capable of assessing, preserving and providing access to records in digital form; salary – from 150 thousand rubles.
The third profession in the top most popular is found on specialist recruitment services more often than the first two: artificial intelligence teacher. An applicant for a position must provide students with the knowledge and skills to understand neural networks, interact with digital assistants and home robots. Salary – 150-200 thousand rubles per month. It is expected that the new subject will be studied everywhere in schools and universities.
— The main trend of modern Russian and world education – interdisciplinarity, that is, a combination of humanitarian and technical areas,” says Angela Dolzhikova. – Higher schools are trying to transform educational programs and create them taking into account digitalization. We, of course, lag behind the labor market, but we are trying hard.
An accredited expert in the scientific and technical sphere of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia, full member of the Academy of Engineering Sciences Anatoly Tsaregorodtsev agrees with his colleague. He believes that the division into physicists and lyricists – yesterday:
— Until recently, many of our universities trained either a tough technician or a tough humanist. And when such a graduate enters the real sector of the economy, he needs to be “reached out,” since all research is carried out at the intersection of various disciplines. But we need a generalist with a diverse education. Such specialists are people of the future, and the very near future.
