MOSCOW, June 9 Five-time Olympic champion and winner of the Tour de France» 2012, British cyclist Bradley Wiggins may lose his medals due to bankruptcy, The Times reports.
The former cyclist was declared bankrupt at Lancaster County Court on June 3 after his company, Wiggins Rights Limited, ran into debts approaching £1 million. Wiggins will be appointed trustees who will seize and dispose of his assets. It is possible that the athlete’s sports medals will be confiscated, following the example of former German tennis player Boris Becker, who was forced to give up his Wimbledon trophies.
Wiggins is 44 years old and retired in December 2016. The Briton has won four Olympic gold medals on track and one gold on road. He also has two bronzes and a silver. Wiggins became the first Briton to win the general classification of the Tour de France.
