“The Faculty of Chemistry of Perm University has developed a method for obtaining essential oil from the fruits of the Sosnovsky hogweed,” says the release.

Now scientists want to develop technologies for obtaining fungicidal preparations based on it, for use in agricultural firms, livestock and poultry farms both in the region and throughout Russia.
The oil was obtained by steam distillation. It is specified that it has high antifungal activity. It can be used to create products to protect plants from fungal diseases, as well as for the sanitization of products and premises.
Sosnowsky's hogweed seriously pollutes the soil and causes deep burns in humans. Farmers and authorities are fighting it. From 2020 to 2022, it was bred on 5.4 thousand hectares in the Perm Territory, this work continues. In the 20th century, it was cultivated as a silage crop, but lost its status in 2015.
