MOSCOW, June 12. Roskomnadzor is studying the possibility of blocking calls from abroad by default to protect subscribers from the threat of fraud, Izvestia writes.
«Roskomnadzor is considering the possibility of blocking calls from abroad by default — this way telecom operators can protect their subscribers from the threat from scammers. According to the department, a multiple increase in fraudulent calls from Ukraine and other countries is currently being recorded,” the material says.
As the department explained to the publication, the decision on the use of this measure, if introduced, will be made by the subscriber himself: it will be possible to choose whether or not to receive incoming calls from abroad, or to limit ourselves to only receiving calls from foreign numbers from the contact list.
As the department’s press service emphasized to the publication, Roskomnadzor is still working with telecom operators on the regulatory and legal aspects of operators’ responsibilities in terms of strengthening security measures for their clients.
At the end of April, the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev, said , that the department plans to submit to the State Duma a bill prohibiting mass spam calls, including robotic ones.
Russia has administrative liability for spam calls; Vladimir Putin signed the corresponding law in early April. For its violation, individuals will pay from ten to 20 thousand rubles, officials — from 20 to 100 thousand, legal entities — from 300 thousand to a million rubles.
