MOSCOW, June 12 The US ban on the provision of IT services applies to enterprises in Russia, it will not affect the operation of the iPhone, in the worst case, iCloud will stop working, the CEO commented TelecomDaily Denis Kuskov.
Earlier on Wednesday, the US Treasury announced new sanctions against Russia, in particular, it would be prohibited to provide any person in the Russian Federation with IT consulting and design services, IT support services and cloud services for enterprise management software, as well as software for design and production. The decision will come into force on September 12, 2024. < /span>
“Still, this is not for any individual, but for an enterprise. Therefore, I don’t think that the iPhone will stop working. In the worst case, iCloud will stop working,” Kuskov said.
According to the expert, most of the American services that left Russia have domestic analogues, and the situation will not affect their users in any way, but those companies that remain with foreign resources are under the “sword of Predocles.”
Deputy Director of the NTI Competence Center «Trusted Interaction Technologies» based on TUSUR, Ruslan Permyakov, believes that citizens of the Russian Federation will continue to be able to use the usual services. In addition, he noted in an interview with, the ban will reduce the possibilities of gray imports and support the Russian import substitution program.
He also emphasized that the US Treasury press release explicitly states that this ban “is not intended to disrupt civil society and civilian telecommunications.”
“Despite the new prohibitions, OFAC continues to support approvals for certain telecommunications and Internet transactions, as well as humanitarian operations,” Permyakov quoted the US Treasury release as saying. According to him, based on the ministry's release, the ban mitigates the consequences for citizens of the Russian Federation and protects public access to information and communication technologies.
