Russians do not have an increased demand for foreign currency, Sberbank said

MOSCOW, June 11 The demand for foreign currency in Sberbank branches is low, and there is no increased interest in it now, the bank’s press service said.
The United States on Wednesday expanded sanctions against Russia to include the Moscow Exchange. Against this background, exchange trading in the dollar and euro was suspended and transferred to the over-the-counter market. The Central Bank later reported that Russian companies and citizens, in light of new US sanctions, can continue to buy and sell dollars and euros through banks, while their funds in these currencies in accounts and deposits remain safe.
“The demand for currency in Sberbank branches is at the level of standard daily averages, that is, not high. We do not see increased interest in currency among our clients,” the credit organization told reporters.
