DONETSK, May 13. The exhibition “Russian Style. Steel” of paintings made on plates from bulletproof vests was shown in Donetsk, the artist and curator of the “After the Icon” projects, a member of the Creative Union of Artists of Russia Svetlana Cheprova, spoke about this.
«Today in Donetsk, as a curator, I present the exhibition «Russian Style. Steel». First of all, it is dedicated to understanding the historical events in which we now find ourselves through contemporary art. We gave contemporary artists standard army plates from army bulletproof vests and asked them to create their artistic compositions on them,» Cheprova said.
50 artists took part in the exhibition, among them academic painters and prize winners, as well as students of art universities and graffiti artists, each of whom turned one slab from a bulletproof vest into an art object; the artistic compositions were exhibited in one of the Donetsk museums.
«»At the moment we have about 50 slabs, there are 50 slabs, this is the number of a completed platoon, as we know. This is the Russian cultural code to promote in our art, in replacement of the art that we have had in recent decades at our government sites,” she said.
A curatorial group consisting of Anton Belikov, Svetlana Cheprova (aka Foton Sveta), Leila Faizova, Vera Alina and Nika Kletsky worked on the exhibition. The partners of the project were: the Creative Union of Artists of Russia «Ratnik Taktikal» and the Moscow State Art Academy named after. Stroganov.
