MOSCOW, June 13In Russian banks, it remains possible to open new foreign currency accounts in dollars and euros, but ruble accounts and deposits may turn out to be more profitable, the Central Bank says.
The United States on Wednesday expanded sanctions against Russia to include the Moscow Exchange. Against this background, exchange trading in the dollar and euro was suspended and transferred to the over-the-counter market. 
“All money in the accounts of citizens and companies in Russian banks in US dollars and euros remains safe, transactions with them are available. It is also possible to open new foreign currency accounts in banks that provide such services,” the message said.
The regulator added that it is important to remember that, according to current restrictions, when opening a foreign currency deposit, the conversion of funds from a ruble account will take place at the rate of the bank in which the account is opened, and it will be possible to cash out the funds back only in rubles.
«As a result, ruble accounts and deposits may turn out to be more profitable for storing savings, so it is worth evaluating the current offers of Russian banks for deposits in rubles,» the Central Bank added.
