“The scale of his personality as a scientist is unique”
Vladimir Putin awarded the title of Hero of Labor to the rector of Moscow State University (MSU) Viktor Sadovnichy. In addition to the highest state award, the head of the main Russian alma mater received the highest assessment of his work from the president. “The scale of his personality as a scientist and statesman is unique,” Putin said.
— Viktor Antonovich became rector in difficult times, in the early 90s, and did everything to maintain the leading position of the university,” the head of state recalled.
Victor Sadovnichy, having accepted the award from the hands of the president, emphasized: throughout his life’s journey — from a miner to an academician — there were people who supported him. This means that he dedicates the high award to them.
The rector of MSU expressed special gratitude to the university staff:
— I am grateful to the people of MSU, who in difficult years, from 1992 onwards, united and preserved our education. It is among the top five in the world according to all ratings,” Sadovnichy said. He made a promise to the president:
— The university corporation and I personally will give everything to solve the tasks that you have set for the country. MSU will always be a support.
