MOSCOW, June 16American rapper Sean Combs, known by the stage name P. Diddy, returned the symbolic key to New York City to City Hall after footage of him assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassandra Ventura leaked online, Fox News reports.
«Sean Diddy Combs has returned his key to New York City at the request of New York City Mayor Eric Adams three weeks after the music mogul was seen in a leaked video from 2016 in which he assaulted then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura,» the channel's website said.
B Fox News obtained a letter from the mayor, in which he said that he was “deeply alarmed” by the video of the beating, the rapper’s key had been revoked and he needed to return it as soon as possible. According to the TV channel, the letter was sent to Combs on June 4. The mayor's office reported that on June 10, the rapper handed over the key back to the city.
Previously, for the same reason, the board of trustees of Howard University in Washington voted to deprive Combs of an honorary degree.
Combs topped Forbes magazine's list of highest-paid musicians in 2017. In 2022, the magazine estimated his net worth at $1 billion, making him the second richest hip-hop artist after Jay-Z.
Sexual assault lawsuits have been filed against the rapper multiple times. In February, it became known that American singer Cassandra Ventura had filed a sexual assault lawsuit against Sean Combs. Later, the rapper's son, 26-year-old Christian Combs, also found himself at the center of harassment allegations.
