BEIJING, June 17 The G7 does not represent the international community, association is increasingly turning into a political instrument for maintaining the hegemony of the United States and Western countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a briefing on Monday.
The meeting of G7 leaders chaired by Italy took place from June 13 to 15.
According to Lin Jian, the G7 cannot represent the international community; the group, according to him, accounts for only 10% of the world's population, and the share of the G7 countries in the world economy is declining every year.
«The G7 has long moved away from its original intention of coordinating and stabilizing the international economic environment and is increasingly becoming a political instrument for maintaining US and Western hegemony,» the diplomat said.
Commenting on the final statement of the G7, Lin Jiang noted that it manipulates issues related to China, smears China, has no basis in fact, and is full of lies and arrogance.
The G7, according to the diplomat, goes against the trend of the times towards peaceful development.
«The G7 says it wants to promote world peace, but insists on drawing boundaries based on ideology and values, inflates a false narrative of democracy versus authoritarianism, and uses narrow circles to provoke bloc confrontation,» Lin Jian added.
