BMW has introduced the fourth-generation X3 mid-size crossover, it will go on sale before the end of this year, prices start at 57,900 euros.
The previous X3 generation G01, which debuted in 2017, brought the BMW Group a lot of money; last year it became the most popular model of the Bavarian brand in the world. Now it is being replaced by the “fourth” BMW X3 with the factory index G45 on the same but modified CLAR platform and with a completely new design. The wheelbase has increased by only 1 mm to 2865 mm, the overall length has increased by 34 mm and is now 4755 mm, the width has increased by 29 mm to 1920 mm, but the height, on the contrary, has decreased by 25 mm to 1660 mm. The proportions, plasticity of the body panels and the shape of the signature nostrils of the BMW X3 now resembles the flagship sports crossover BMW XM.

The top version of the X3 M50 xDrive at the moment has its own, more aggressive than other versions, bumper design and horizontal bars in the nostrils instead of oblique and vertical ones. And only the BMW X3 M50 xDrive has exposed exhaust pipes, in other versions they are shyly hidden behind the skirt of the rear bumper. The trunk door of all versions is covered by a developed relief spoiler. The declared aerodynamic drag coefficient cx is 0.27 — an impressive figure for such a large car. A panoramic glass roof along the entire length of the cabin, not cut by crossbars, is an option. The diameter of the standard wheels is from 18 to 21 inches. Ground clearance — 208-216 mm depending on the modification.

The rear wheel track of the new BMW X3 has been increased by 45 mm compared to its predecessor, and the body has become lighter and stiffer. The suspension has not changed fundamentally; it is spring-type, McPherson type at the front, five-link at the rear. The angular rigidity of the suspensions is increased due to oblique struts. Adaptive dampers, M Sport sports suspension and powerful M Sport brakes are available as an extra charge (the BMW X3 M50 xDrive has sports suspension and powerful brakes as standard equipment). Trunk volume is 570 liters, with the second row seat backs folded down — 1700 liters. In the hybrid version, part of the trunk is consumed by a 392-volt traction battery with a capacity of 19.7 kWh located above the rear axle, so the output is 460 liters by default and up to 1600 liters with the rear seat folded.

In the interior of the BMW X3, with the change of generations, there are fewer physical buttons and more touch ones, that is, ergonomics have worsened. Not only the central microclimate unit has become touch sensitive, but also the side panels in the front doors — they manage the side deflectors of the ventilation system, the central locking and the memory of the driver's seat settings. The climate control is already three-zone in the “base”. Touch-sensitive door panels, a central climate control unit and a tray with wireless charging for a smartphone are framed by a thick LED circuit that can change colors and create gradients.

The automatic transmission selector has been reduced to a small toggle switch on the central tunnel. The panoramic two-screen display with the BMW 9 operating system is the same as other new models of the Bavarian brand: the instrument screen is 12.3 inches, the multimedia screen is 14.9 inches. The instrument screen can be supplemented for an additional fee with a color projector of operational readings on the windshield. There is a wide variety of interior trim options: the front panel can be covered with cozy textiles, the seats can be covered with real leather, which BMW, unlike the Mini brand, is not going to give up yet.
