Production Cupra Raval Prepares for Debut: Hot Hatch Drives on Camera

The new five-door of the Spanish brand, which will take the place of entry-level electric cars, will go on sale on the European market next year.

The Cupra brand, owned by the German concern Volkswagen, separated from the parent company Seat at the beginning of 2018; until that moment, the “charged” versions of Seat received such an addition to the name. Now the Cupra lineup partly consists of “warmed up” Seat cars, partly of cars that are produced only under the Cupra brand. The line of the latter will soon expand with new items.

Let us remind you that the company announced a new model back in September 2021: then a show car called UrbanRebel debuted at the Munich Motor Show. In the summer of 2022, the brand showed a concept with the same name that was closer to production. And in May last year, Cupra showed a pre-production prototype of the future new product and declassified the official name — Raval (this is a reference to one of the districts of Barcelona).

As Kolesa.ru reported earlier, in the Cupra brand hierarchy, the Raval will take the place of the entry-level electric car. It is known that it will have a pair of «twins» released under the Volkswagen and Skoda brands (Skoda is also part of the VW concern). As noted earlier, this trio of new products will replace the electric compacts Seat Mii Electric, Skoda Citigo-e iV and Volkswagen e-up!.

For now, Cupra is keeping the appearance of the serial Raval hot hatch a secret. However, photo spies managed to catch a prototype of the future new product during road tests, which it underwent in the southern part of Europe. The photos were shared with us by colleagues from the Spanish publication Motor.es.

In the photographs, the Cupra “electric train” is hidden behind a thick layer of camouflage film, which does not allow most of the exterior details to be seen. Judging by the pictures, the production version will take a lot from last year's prototype, including the silhouette. However, the commercial version of Raval has a different light pattern for the head optics, and the air intake at the bottom of the front bumper has a different pattern.

The production hatchback will also obviously have traditional exterior mirrors, retractable door handles, a shark fin antenna on the roof and a large spoiler located on the upper part of the trunk lid. Most likely, the new product will receive horizontal lights and a massive diffuser at the bottom of the rear bumper.

It is known that the future compact five-seater hatchback will be based on Volkswagen's MEB Entry platform. The Spaniards believe that the new product will have several traction batteries to choose from, with a maximum usable capacity of 48 kWh. The Cupra Raval's range on a single charge is expected to be around 420 km (based on the WLTP cycle). According to preliminary data, the model will only have front-wheel drive, the maximum power of the electric motor will likely exceed 200 hp.

The “green” five-door, which will be produced at the Seat plant in Martorell (Spain), will go on sale on the European market in 2025. The estimated price tag is about 25 thousand euros (equivalent to approximately 2.29 million rubles at the current exchange rate).
