Russian security forces conducted more than 50 searches in the case of unprofitable mines
Officers of the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) conducted more than 50 searches in a criminal case about the theft of money through a government agency on issues of liquidation and reorganization of unprofitable mines and open-pit mines. At the same time, investigative activities took place in the Perm region, Moscow and the Moscow region, Kemerovo, Rostov and Kaliningrad regions, writes Kommersant.
The publication, citing sources, reports that the case under the article of fraud on an especially large scale concerns the illegal actions of officials, whose identities have not currently been established. They also affect several organizations associated with the department that took out contracts for work.
The Russian Ministry of Energy is the applicant in the case. Department specialists, together with tax authorities, found that only four organizations received contracts from 2014 to 2023. Their total amount was estimated at seven billion rubles.
According to preliminary data from the investigation, the agency for the liquidation and reorganization of unprofitable mines transferred money to the contractors, but did not control the progress of the work. In particular, it was established that the foundations and buildings were not demolished, garbage remained on the river banks, and the reclamation of the dumps of the excavated rocks was not carried out.
