In California, a black bear that attacked a woman watched her house for several months, writes Fox News.
In November 2023, in the city of Downieville, a bear broke into the house of 71-year-old Patrice Miller and attacked her, causing fatal injuries. A forensic examination showed the woman's neck was severed.
Miller's neighbors have spotted the bear near her home many times. The woman tried to get the animal caught and relocated, but so far this has not happened. She reinforced the house by installing steel bars on the windows, but this did not help.
The coroner's report concluded that the bear entered the bedroom where Miller was sleeping and pulled her out of bed, dragging her into the living room. The animal remained in the house for several days, feeding on the remains of the woman.
Black bears, or baribals, are the most common species of bear in North America.
An adult male can reach a length of 1.4 to 2 meters and weigh up to 360 kilograms. Attacks of these bears on people are extremely rare.
