MOSCOW, June 19 West for a real settlement conflict in Ukraine, he must stop building castles in the sand and listen to Russia’s position, said former Russian Ambassador to Uruguay, Ecuador, Argentina and Paraguay Jan Burlyai.
Russian President Vladimir Putin previously made new peace proposals to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, providing for recognition of the status of Crimea, DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions as regions of Russia, consolidation of the non-aligned and nuclear-free status of Ukraine, its demilitarization and denazification, the abolition of anti-Russian sanctions. The Ukrainian side rejected the initiative.
“I think, in any case, the West should listen to the position of Russia, to the position of the Russian leadership on this matter, if they want to achieve real resolution of the conflict and achieve results that could be realized, and not build some castles in the sand «, said the diplomat, commenting on the proposals of the Russian President on Ukraine.
According to Burlyai, only with the direct participation of Russia in resolving the conflict is it possible to achieve stabilization and reduce tension in international relations. The diplomat noted that this is why the conference in Switzerland, where the Russian Federation was not invited, passed without a trace.
The conference in Bürgenstock, Switzerland was held on June 15-16. The Kremlin stated that looking for ways out of the situation in the Ukrainian conflict without Russia’s participation is absolutely illogical and futile. The joint communiqué following the conference calls for Kyiv to return control of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, and also contains calls for free movement in the Black and Azov Seas, for the exchange and release of all prisoners of war. The document also speaks of the need for dialogue between all parties to end the conflict. Of the 91 participants in the meeting, only 76 supported the communiqué. Only one country that did not participate in this conference joins the list of signatories: Antigua and Barbuda. At the same time, the final communiqué was not signed by Armenia, Bahrain, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Libya, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates. Later, Iraq, Jordan and Rwanda withdrew their signatures to the communiqué.
