MOSCOW, June 19 People's Artist of the Russian Federation, prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Theater Svetlana Zakharova called for looking for talented, young choreographers in Russia and focusing on their contemporary art, noting that the capabilities of the domestic ballet have greatly decreased, since Western directors stopped coming to the country.
«I think that (Russian ballet — ed.) will be even better. Today we focus on our own contemporary art, since our opportunities have greatly decreased, it is no secret that many modern choreographers from the West have stopped coming to us come,” Zakharova said at a press conference at the international multimedia press center of the Rossiya Segodnya media group.
In her opinion, we need to look for young, talented choreographers and let them try themselves. “If we don’t try and take risks, then maybe it will get even worse. We need to develop and not be afraid of anything,” the ballerina emphasized.
She recalled that the revival of the ballet “Romeo and Juliet” staged by Mikhail Lavrovsky was perceived as something new. “Now it was danced by new artists, played by other musicians. All the costumes were made according to old sketches. It sounded so powerful and bright. This performance became a new breath,” noted the artist.
