Bugatti has introduced a new base supercar, the Tourbillon, which replaces the Chiron. The design of the Tourbillon was not a big surprise, it represents an evolution of the Chiron style, but the technical filling is completely new and very expensive: each Tourbillon will cost the customer at least 3.8 million euros!
At the end of May the Bugatti company, now under the control of the Croatian Rimac Group, reported on the release of the last, 500th copy of the Chiron supercar, and on June 20, a new chapter in the history of the legendary French brand began — Mate Rimac, the head of Bugatti Rimac, personally presented the one made from scratch all-wheel drive hybrid supercar Bugatti Tourbillon. Those wishing to buy the Tourbillon need to prepare a minimum of 3.8 million euros, while the Chiron cost from 2.4 million euros.

The name Tourbillon refers to elite, ultra-precise chronographs, the mechanism of which is able to partially compensate for the gravity of the Earth. The new Bugatti supercar is literally imbued with the spirit of expensive and precise mechanics — the developers wanted it to be perceived as a work of art, the value of which does not depend on time. In this sense, the rather conservative design of the Tourbillon with characteristic horseshoe-shaped arcs around the doors seems quite logical: it was worked on by former Bugatti chief designer Achim Anscheidt, who gave way last year to his younger colleague Frank Hale.
The Bugatti Tourbillon is based on a completely new carbon fiber monocoque. The body proportions have become more rapid and athletic compared to the Chiron; aerodynamic elements are hidden inside the body whenever possible so as not to disturb the harmony of the external contours. A retractable wing is built into the stern, which is also an aerodynamic brake with an adjustable angle of attack, and the diffuser coming out from under the stern starts approximately from the middle of the car — it is this that creates the lion's share of the download at maximum speed, because at maximum speed the wing is retracted. Huge lifting doors extending onto the roof are equipped with an electric drive. Overall length of Tourbillon — 4671 mm, width — 2051 mm, height — 1189 mm, wheelbase — 2740 mm.

The Tourbillon's interior is much more aesthetically pleasing than the Chiron's, and can rival the masterpiece interiors of Pagani supercars. The jeweled instrument panel literally uses the technology of elite Swiss watches and displays openwork titanium gears rotating in the depths of the dials. The shield consists of more than 600 small parts and weighs only 700 grams. The slightly flattened steering wheel with two vertical spokes rotates around a fixed hub with an airbag and does not block the instrument panel at any angle of rotation.

The narrow center console with milled aluminum toggle switches and controls is decorated with real crystal, safe in case of accidents. A small multimedia screen extends, if necessary, from the top of the front panel using a mechanism with complex kinematics and can take a portrait or landscape position. The position of the pedal assembly can be adjusted electrically. The audio system is deeply integrated into the body and uses its natural cavities as resonators.
The power plant of the Bugatti Tourbillon is built around the latest 8.3-liter V16 naturally aspirated petrol engine (camber angle — 90 degrees), designed in collaboration with specialists from the British company Cosworth, its maximum output is 1000 hp. and 900 Nm, maximum crankshaft speed — 9000 rpm. The sound of this engine is absolutely incomparable and incomparable. With an overall length of one meter, the V16 engine weighs just 252 kg, it is mated to an 8-speed DCT automatic transmission (dual clutch) and transmits all its power to the rear wheels through an electronically controlled limited slip differential.

The rear wheels are also driven by an electric motor installed between the internal combustion engine and the gearbox with a peak output of 250 kW (340 hp) and 340 Nm. Two more 250-kilowatt motors are installed on the front axle — each rotates its own wheel. The maximum total power of the power plant is 1800 hp. An 800-volt T-shaped traction battery with a capacity of 24.8 kWh is located in the central tunnel and behind the passenger compartment; its full charge is enough for 60 km of electric driving on the WLTP cycle. The Tourbillon's curb weight is 1,995 kg. The supercar accelerates to 100 km/h in 2 seconds, to 200 km/h in 5 seconds, to 300 km/h in 10 seconds, to 400 km/h in 25 seconds, and the maximum speed is 445 km/h.< br />

The Tourbillon chassis with multi-link suspension at the front and rear uses lightweight cast thin-walled aluminum subframes and openwork aluminum arms made by 3D printing — this makes it possible to minimize unsprung weights: compared to the Chiron, the suspension is “thinner” by 45%. Powerful carbon-ceramic brakes are standard equipment. Standard tires are Michelin Pilot Cup Sport 2 sizes 285/35 R 20 at the front and 345/30 R 21 at the rear.

At the moment, the Bugatti Tourbillon is in prototype status; a large cycle of development tests awaits it, after which the technical characteristics may be slightly adjusted; the final specification will be made public, apparently, only in 2026, when production begins. Bugatti will produce only 250 copies of the Tourbillon, but on its basis, of course, other small-scale and one-piece Bugatti models with even higher price tags will subsequently appear.
