MOSCOW, June 20The Sovetsky District Court of Orel extended the detention for two months for the adviser to the governor of the Oryol region, Sergei Lezhnev, in a case of fraud totaling 76 million rubles, the court’s press service reported.
At the end of May, the Sovetsky District Court in Orel sent Lezhnev into custody for a month. He is charged with fraud committed by an organized group or on an especially large scale, for the theft of funds during construction work under municipal contracts. Lezhnev's defense appealed the chosen preventive measure, but the Oryol Regional Court left him in custody. 
“The Sovetsky District Court of Orel today extended the period of detention for two months, until August 24, 2024, for the adviser to the governor of the Oryol region, Sergei Lezhnev, accused of committing fraud under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation,” a representative of the press service told the agency court
It was previously reported that the defendant acted as part of an organized group, using his official position. Lezhnev is accused of embezzling funds within the framework of the projects: “Reconstruction of the Red Bridge in the city of Orel”, “Major repairs of the Druzhba bridge across the Oka River within the city of Orel”, “Reconstruction of the bridge across the Sosna River on the Vakhnova municipal highway -Vozhzhevo in the Livensky district of the Oryol region.»
The total damage from the theft of funds allocated to budgets at various levels, including within the framework of the national project «Safe and High-Quality Highways», amounted to more than 76 million rubles.
