MOSCOW, June 21 Foreign sanctions against Russia are preventing the start of direct flights between Russia and Brazil, as well as between Russia and South Africa, the head of the Federal Air Transport Agency said during the BRICS Tourism Forum Dmitry Yadrov.
«Specially, I would like to dwell on Brazil and South Africa. Currently, we do not carry out air transportation with these countries. We have been working with Brazil for a long period of time, but even the establishment of charter flights, taking into account the sanctions policy against Russian airlines, which is being carried out from the point of view of the possibility of refueling aircraft, opening is not expected in the near future,” he said.
According to Yadrov, “there are also movements in South Africa.” On the one hand, they are positive, on the other, there is again the possibility of emergency landings in countries that could have a corresponding “sanctioning effect on Russian airlines,” which imposes a certain risk.
«In any case… there may be some progress,» concluded the head of the Federal Air Transport Agency.
