MOSCOW, June 21 Football players of the Ukrainian national team defeated the Slovak team in match of the second round of the group stage of the European Championship, which takes place in Germany.
The Group E meeting, held on Friday in Dusseldorf, ended with a score of 2:1 in favor of the Ukrainians. Nikolay Shaparenko (54th minute) and Roman Yaremchuk (80th minute) scored goals for the winners. The Slovaks scored Ivan Schranz (17), who was equal in the list of top scorers of the current tournament with the German Jamal Musiala, who has two goals.
The national teams of Slovakia and Ukraine have three points each. The leader in the group with the same number of points is the Romanian team; the Belgians, who have no points, are in last place in the standings. The match of the second round of the group stage between the national teams of Belgium and Romania will take place on Saturday.
In the final round of Group E, the Ukrainians will play against the Belgian national team on June 26, the Slovaks will play a match with the Romanians on the same day.
The European Championship runs from June 14 to July 14. The International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) in February 2022 suspended Russian national teams and clubs from participating in international competitions due to the events in Ukraine.
