PERM, June 20Artist Nikolai Polissky in the Telegram channel of the Nikola-Lenivets art park proposed installing a new art object made of driftwood lying at the bottom of the Kama River in place of the dismantled “Perm Gate”, which became a symbol of the city.
“Now Nailya Allahverdieva, the director of the Perm Museum and the initiative group around him asked me to think about a new object on the site of the “Perm Gate” in order to give new energy to the site and the city. My first thoughts are about the driftwood lying in huge quantities at the bottom of the Kama, which is quite natural for a raftable river. Nowadays, driftwood poses a problem for navigation, and besides, it is an excellent, durable material,” says a statement from the Nikola-Lenivets art park, founded by Polissky.
On Wednesday, June 19, the contractor demolished the work of Nikolai Polissky “Perm Gate” — one of the most famous art objects in Russia. A twelve-meter arch made of five thousand logs was installed in Perm in 2011 next to the railway station. After installation, the structure was on the balance sheet of the Perm Museum of Contemporary Art PERMM. According to the authorities, by 2024 the structure had fallen into disrepair, the joints of the logs were damaged, the wood began to rot, and cracks had formed at the base of the Gate.
