MOSCOW, June 20 The Central Election Commission records attempts to blackmail and intimidate members of election commissions and voters, said CEC member Igor Borisov.
«We see that methods of interference and pressure on free elections continue to be improved… Attempts are being made to personalize influence — deception, intimidation, blackmail on representatives of election bodies and even voters,» Borisov said at a meeting of the Federation Council commission on protection state sovereignty and prevention of interference in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation.
He noted that there is now an active policy of feeding the “fifth column”, and methods of misleading and forms of disinformation are acquiring a more sophisticated type of attack.
““Based on the results of the presidential elections in the Russian Federation, held on March 17 of this year, 15 methods and types of interference and pressure from abroad on the elections in Russia were identified,” he added.
Earlier, the Central Election Commission reported that on a single voting day on September 8, more than 4 thousand election campaigns will be held, elections of governors in 21 regions and deputies of the Moscow City Duma are planned, as well as other elections at various levels.
