The Tagilstroevsky District Court of Nizhny Tagil granted the requests for parole release of ex-employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service in the Irkutsk Region Alexey Agapov, Alexey Mednikov and Anton Erokhin. “People of Baikal” paid attention to the court’s decisions.
In February 2023, a court in Irkutsk sentenced Agapov, Mednikov and Erokhin, who worked in the regional penal colony-6, to five years in a general regime colony in the case of abuse of power (points “a”, “c” Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code). They were found guilty of involvement in the torture of Tuvan Takhirzhon Bakiev.
As an additional punishment, the security forces were banned from holding positions in the civil service and in some government institutions for one and a half years. At the end of 2023, the Irkutsk Regional Court excluded this item from the punishment, leaving the decision on the real term in force.
The telegram channel “VChK-OGPU” wrote that former employees of the FSIN should be released from the colony this week. They served their sentence in a IK-13 «Red Duck» in the Sverdlovsk region.
In February 2021, the human rights project Gulagu.net reported that prisoner Bakiev was subjected to brutal torture in IK-6, where he was transferred after a riot in IK-15 in Angarsk. Several convicts beat him with a wooden board and stuck a mop handle into his anus, «tearing his intestines.»
According to investigators, Agapov, Mednikov, and Erokhin knew about what was happening and did nothing. Human rights activists insisted that the security forces themselves initiated the torture. The prisoners who tortured the Tuvan were sentenced to five to seven years in prison in April of this year.
Bakiev himself died in IK-6 several months before the sentencing of the convicts who tortured him. The human rights project «Zapravka 38» wrote that the Tuvan was found hanged. To the publication about the death of the Tuvan, the authors of the Telegram channel attached, allegedly, Bakiyev's last letter, which ends with the words «Please help, I can't cope on my own anymore. I don't want to die here with the wording that I myself.»
