Mercedes-Benz has expanded its lineup with long-wheelbase versions of the Citan and EQT

The “heels” of the German brand have “stretched” modifications: the distance between the axles has increased by 384 mm.

The second-generation Mercedes-Benz Citan, a small utility van, which is a close relative of the third-generation Renault Kangoo, debuted in 2021. Later, the line was replenished with a passenger version of the T-Class, as well as a completely “green” modification of the EQT. The production of all versions (and the donor) is carried out at a plant in France. Now the family has been expanded with “stretched” versions.

It is worth noting that the Mercedes-Benz T-Class with an extended wheelbase was added to the range last fall. Now the Citan with EQT also has “stretched” modifications, which are the same in size as the “twin” Grand Kangoo. Thus, the new products have a distance between the axles of 3100 mm, which is 384 mm more than the standard versions. The length is 4910 mm (424 mm longer) and the sliding door openings are 830 mm (180 mm larger compared to the regular current Citan and EQT).

The extended wheelbase made it possible to freely place up to seven seats in the cabin. Note that the base model is designed for five passengers, and the installation of a third row is offered as an option. In the T-Class and EQT vans, all passenger seats can be removed from the cabin, which will increase the cargo compartment volume to 3,660 liters. The “stretched” cargo-passenger version of the Mercedes-Benz Citan Mixto has a passenger sofa as a second row and a cargo compartment behind the partition. With the seats raised vertically, the volume is 3200 liters.

Mercedes-Benz also timed a planned update of previously presented vans to coincide with the addition of the family. Now all versions of the line are equipped with the latest generation MBUX infotainment system with an over-the-air update function, a touchscreen whose diagonal has grown from 7 to 9.5 inches, a modified menu and wireless support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The list of interior changes that the cars received during the update included a new steering wheel with touch buttons. In addition, the range of electronic driver assistants has been expanded for vans.

The refreshed cars were left with the same technology; the Renault Kangoo has a similar “filling”. The range includes a 1.5-liter CDI turbodiesel with output of 75, 95 and 116 hp, as well as a 1.3-liter gasoline turbo-four with output of either 102 or 131 hp. The basic versions are equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, while other options are offered an additional seven-speed robot with two clutches for an additional fee. Electric trains Mercedes-Benz eCitan and EQT are equipped with a single 122-horsepower electric motor located on the front axle, as well as a traction battery with a capacity of 45 kWh. The range on a single charge is 285 km; when charging with DC power up to 80 kW, it takes 38 minutes to replenish from 10 to 80%.

In Europe, the price of a Mercedes van is Benz Citan with internal combustion engine starts from 25,030 euros, and the Citan Mixto from 33,789 euros. For a regular-length eCitan they ask for no less than 34,893 euros, for a long-wheelbase version of the “electric van” — no less than 40,658 euros. The eCitan Tourer with a long wheelbase costs 40,062 euros, while the stretched EQT costs at least 41,612 euros.
