The developers of the game Genshin Impact, popular among anime fans, including Russian ones, have launched their own private nuclear reactor.< /p>
According to ZME Science, in early 2022, miHoYo, the creator of the game, and Chinese automaker Nio invested almost $70 million in a project developing fusion energy and related technologies. The company's first tokamak, a fusion reactor, has now launched.
The journey from virtual anime characters to powering groundbreaking science may seem incredible, but miHoYo's fusion power project demonstrates the unexpected intersections between entertainment and innovation. In today's world, funding sources are often unpredictable, and companies are looking to diversify their portfolios.
The publication notes that in March 2021, miHoYo entered into a strategic partnership with Ruijin Hospital to create the Ruijin-miHoYo Laboratory, a joint project aimed at research into brain-computer interface technology. Two years later, in 2023, the company also sponsored Oriental Space Technology, a company developing a launch vehicle and a reusable rocket engine powered by liquid oxygen and kerosene. According to journalists, the Chinese company miHoYo is valued at more than $20 billion and earns more than a billion dollars in profit per year.
