The economist spoke about the procedure for indexing pensions for working pensioners
The State Duma adopted a bill on the resumption of indexation of pensions for working pensioners on Wednesday, June 26. This measure will affect 7.87 million people, and the minimum increase in old-age benefits will be about 1,300 rubles.
Economist, associate professor of the Department of Public Finance at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation Igor Balynin told aif.ru about how pensions for working citizens will be indexed from February 1, 2025. The expert explained that since 2016, pensions for this category of citizens have been indexed, but not paid. You can track the amount in your SFR personal account. According to the specialist, two amounts are indicated there: the one that is currently paid, and the one that the person will receive after dismissal.
«From February 1, 2025, the coefficient will be applied specifically to the amount, taking into account all accumulated indexations. This will provide working pensioners with a maximum increase in their pension,” – Balynin explained.
According to the bill, the procedure for calculating the pension of a working citizen can be presented step by step. At the first stage, from the full amount of accumulated indexation, which will be displayed on the individual personal account at the end of the current year, the indexation amount will be calculated, taking into account the percentage established by the Russian government. It will depend on the actual inflation rate for 2024. The amount received should be added to the actual payment received. The result of these actions is the amount of the pension that will be paid to the working pensioner after indexation.
To implement the bill in 2025, an additional almost 96.5 billion rubles will be required, in 2026 – more than 177 billion in 2027 – 260 billion rubles.
President Vladimir Putin announced the return of increased payments to working pensioners during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
In turn, State Duma deputy Andrei Isaev said that the indexation of pensions that had not been received over eight years does not disappear, but will be resumed after the pensioner stops working.
