The ex-head of the Sergokalinsky district of Dagestan was arrested for 10 days on a case of petty hooliganism; his son was killed as a participant in the terrorist attack

The Leninsky District Court of Makhachkala sentenced Magomed Omarov to 10 days of administrative arrest. Kommersant and TASS write about this with reference to the head of the press service of the Supreme Court of the Republic.

Omarov was found guilty under the protocol of petty hooliganism (Part 1 of Article 20.1 of the Administrative Code). What formally became the reason for bringing to administrative responsibility is not yet known. The court website still does not have a case file for the ex-head of the Sergokalinsky district of the republic.

According to Kommersant, Omarov was detained yesterday evening. Baza wrote that in the near future a case could be opened against him under the article of aiding terrorist activities.

Previously, Interfax, citing security officials, reported that among the participants in the terrorist attack in Dagestan were Omarov’s two sons and his nephew. TASS, in turn, also wrote about the participation of two sons of the head of the Sergokalinsky district in the terrorist attacks. At the same time, according to Kommersant, only one son of Omarov was involved in the militant attack. The Baza Telegram channel wrote that during interrogation, Magomed Omarov said that he knew about the radical views of some of his relatives.

On June 23, a group of militants fired at Orthodox churches and synagogues in Derbent and Makhachkala, and also attacked police officers. As a result of the terrorist attack, 21 people were killed, including 16 security officials. On June 24, the National Anti-Terrorism Committee reported the killing of five attackers. Subsequently, the Investigative Committee opened a case of terrorism, illegal acquisition and storage of weapons.

Before the terrorist attack on June 23, Magomed Omarov served as head of the Sergokalinsky district of Dagestan. Later, due to attacks in Derbent and Makhachkala, he wrote a resignation letter, which was signed by the head of Dagestan. Soon after this, Omarov was also expelled from the United Russia party.
