The Southern District Military Court sentenced Ukrainian Yaroslav Zhuk to 14 years in prison on charges of attempting a terrorist attack in Melitopol. This was reported by the press service of the court.

Zhuk was found guilty in the case of “international terrorism” (Part 1 of Article 361 of the Criminal Code). He must spend the first four years in prison, the rest in a maximum security colony.

According to the security forces, on June 17, 2022, Zhuk installed an explosive device at the entrance to the building of the occupation administration of the Zaporozhye region and planned to detonate it the moment the unnamed official left.

According to the publication “Grati”, the Investigative Committee accused the Ukrainian of an attempt on the life of the director of the education department of the occupied city, Elena Shakurova, and the explosion itself occurred near the building of the Melitopol Industrial and Economic College.

After his arrest, Zhuk informed his lawyer Alexei Ladin about the torture. According to the Ukrainian, he was beaten and then kept in an unknown basement with a bag over his head for about a week. Zhuk added that he was shocked every half hour with electric shocks and blunt objects, and his feet were also set on fire.
