MOSCOW, June 27, Svetlana Bonopartova. Head coach of the Russian national team Greco-Roman wrestling Gogi Koguashvili said that he currently does not have access to the Olympic Games, but will try to be close to the athletes during the competition.
Earlier, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) published a list of the first 14 athletes from Russia who received admission to the Games in Paris in neutral status. In particular, 10 wrestlers were included in it, including two representatives of the Greco-Roman style — Alan Ostaev (up to 87 kg) and European Championship medalist Magomed Murtazaliev (up to 97 kg). In total, Russian wrestlers won 16 licenses for the Olympic Games; many leaders of the national team are missing from the list published by the IOC. Later, the IOC clarified that the list of admitted wrestlers will not be replenished.
«At the moment, the athletes have access; there is no answer yet regarding the accompanying personnel. But even if I am not allowed, we have coaches who train and prepare the guys, someone will still be there. I’ll do it anyway I’ll try to be nearby, not as a representative of the delegation, but as a spectator, as a tourist,” Koguashvili said.
