Avito Auto experts analyzed data on supply, demand and prices for passenger cars with different body types for the period from January to May 2024 of the year. The highest demand among new cars was for SUVs, and in the segment of used vehicles — for sedans.
In the category of new cars, the share of demand for cars, bodies which belong to the “SUV” type, in January-May 2024 amounted to 63.13%. At the same time, year on year the demand for such cars increased by 51.3%. The average price of such vehicles was 3,149,000 rubles. The most popular car in this category was the LADA Niva Legend: its share is 11.89%, and the average price* is 1,015,000 rubles, which is the minimum figure among the leaders in this category.
In second place in terms of share in demand is the sedan body. Such cars received 24.78% with an average price1 of 2,190,000 rubles. The increase in demand year on year is 49.7%. Among car models with this body type, the leader in demand was the LADA Granta: its share was 30.26%. The average price of Granta is 971,000 rubles, thus, this model has become the most budget-friendly among the leaders in this category.

The third place in terms of share in demand was taken by the liftback body: it received 6.39% with an average price of 1,783,000 rubles. Compared to the period from January to May 2023, the demand for such cars increased by 28.3%. The leader in demand in this vehicle category was the LADA Granta: its share here is 55.42%, and the average price of such a model is 1,022,000 rubles.
The fourth line of the rating is occupied by cars with a pickup body. The share of such vehicles in demand is 3.29%, and the average price is 3,282,000 rubles. Over the year, demand for them almost doubled – by 95.1%. The most popular model in this category was the Great Wall Poer model with 7.34% and an average price of 3,749,000 rubles.

The top 5 body types are rounded off by a station wagon, whose share in demand is 1.95%. The average price of station wagons is 1,799,000 rubles. LADA Vesta was in first place in this category: its share in demand is 21.68%, and the average price is 3,220,000 rubles.
By the number of advertisements on the Avito Auto platform, the SUV is in the lead (75.02%). It is followed by the sedan, which received 16.09%, and the liftback with 3.81%. Other body types received less than 2% of the supply.

When choosing used cars, users of the Avito Auto platform are more interested in sedans: the share of this body type in demand was 43.79%. The average price of a sedan is 835,000 rubles. Among the models, the LADA Priora is in highest demand. Its share was 6.49% with an average price of 400,000 rubles.
In second place in demand are SUVs, whose share is 20.53%. The average price of such cars is 2,000,000 rubles, and this is the maximum figure in the top 5 bodies. In this category, the leader in demand is the VAZ (LADA) 4×4 (Niva). This model received 8.28% of demand with an average price of 470,000 rubles.
The third line went to the hatchback body, which received a share of 17%. The average price of a hatchback is 629,000 rubles (the minimum figure in the top 5). The leader here is also the representative of the domestic automobile industry — LADA 2114 Samara (17.96% in demand with an average price of 205,000 rubles).
In fourth place is the station wagon with a share of 5.38% and an average price of 860,000 rubles. Among the models in this category, LADA Kalina is the leader: its share is 11.92% with an average price of 380,000 rubles.

The top 5 is closed by liftback bodies. He received 2.63% of demand. The average price of such a vehicle is 1,256,000 rubles. The most popular model among liftbacks was the Skoda Octavia, whose share of demand is 30.41%, and the average price is 1,110,000 rubles.
The sedan is also the leader in the number of advertisements on the Avito Auto platform: it owns a share of 38.39%. In second place are SUVs with 26.49%, in third place are hatchbacks with 17.51%. The fourth line was taken by the station wagon, which received 5.47%, and the fifth place by the liftback with 3.26%.

Buyers of new cars today most often choose crossovers — the most popular body type in the SUV class, and sedans are the most in demand on the used car market. At the same time, we see a significant increase in demand year on year for almost all major body types in both the mass and premium segments of new cars — the interest of Russians in new cars is gradually increasing.
