VORONEZH, June 27 A nineteen-year-old girl, on whom a tree fell in the center of Voronezh, died in the hospital, reports the regional department of the Russian Investigative Committee.
Wind speeds of up to 23 meters per second raged in Voronezh and the region on June 20 and 21. According to the city hall, as of 18.55 Moscow time on June 20, 27 trees had fallen in the city, and on June 21, trees continued to fall due to the wind. A video from Ordzhonikidze Street in the center of Voronezh appeared on local Telegram channels, showing how a huge branch falls on a walking girl, completely covering the victim. The Investigative Committee began an investigation into the incident.
“According to preliminary data, on June 21, 2024, a tree fell near house 8 on Ordzhonikidze Street in the city of Voronezh, injuring a 19-year-old passerby. As a result of the blow, the girl received bodily injuries with which she was hospitalized. Despite timely qualified medical care, the victim died,» the statement said.
Following the fatal injury of a girl as a result of a falling tree, a case was opened regarding the provision of services that did not meet the safety requirements of citizens.
«The investigation believes that the death of a local resident became possible as a result of the provision of services that did not meet safety requirements by persons responsible for the timely cutting down of trees that pose a danger to townspeople,» the report says.
As the Voronezh mayor’s office noted, the fallen tree “grew in the local area, the land is on the cadastre, the area of responsibility of the housing service organization.”
