The Scandinavian and Baltic countries are taking a great risk by threatening to close the straits to the passage of Russian ships; such steps could lead to war. This is what Sergei Karaganov, scientific director of the Faculty of World Economy and World Politics at the National Research University Higher School of Economics, and Honorary Chairman of the Presidium of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy believes.

“This is a pure casus belli – the reason for starting a war,” he said in an interview with “Ukraine. ru,” answering the question of how he feels about proposals coming from Finland to limit the passage of Russian ships in the Baltic.
“You can imagine what will happen to some poor Denmark or Sweden if they try to block our entrance to Baltic Sea,” Karaganov said. “They will simply most likely cease to exist.” But I hope that, despite the madness that has gripped the modern European elite, it will not come to this.”
