In the new generation, the Honda van has been transformed both outside and inside. In addition, he has grown a little. Buyers can still choose a pure gasoline car or a hybrid, both of which come with all-wheel drive.
Honda declassified the design of the third-generation Freed compact van in May. And now in Japan all the characteristics have been revealed and the price list has been published. The start of “live” sales there will take place on Friday, June 28. Let us remind you that the predecessor lasted on the production line for almost eight years, the “second” Freed underwent a full restyling in 2019.

Like the previous model, the new van is offered in two modifications: the standard one now bears the Air prefix, and the “off-road” version retains the “surname” Crosstar. In both cases, the Honda Freed looks more solid than the previous MPV — there are no more “broken” lines. The features of the “crossover” are an unpainted plastic body kit, separate fog lights, roof rails, and “protective” plates at the front and rear. The length of the Freed has increased by 45 mm to 4310 mm, the wheelbase has not changed — 2740 mm.

The interior also turned out to be more austere. The narrow tidy on top of the front panel was abandoned — the color screen is integrated directly into the panel. The touchscreen of the multimedia system now “floats”, the central air deflectors are located under it, and not on the sides, and air ducts for the rear riders have appeared on the ceiling. There is a spacious shelf in front of the front passenger. At the same time, Freed still has many small niches, compartments, hooks and pockets. It was also stated that the compact van received more comfortable seats.

Freed Air and Freed Crosstar come with six or seven seats. But the five-seater version is provided exclusively for the “crossover”. In addition, only the Crosstar has a two-story trunk and a very low floor level (similar solutions were used in the previous model). But in the Freed Air, the third row seats can be mounted vertically on the walls of the cargo compartment.

For the Japanese, the Honda Freed is still offered both with an internal combustion engine and and as a hybrid. But the technology is new. The “traditional” compact van is equipped with an aspirated L15D 1.5 petrol engine with a power of 118 hp. and a variator. The hybrid Freed has a new generation e:HEV installation, it consists of an aspirated LEB 1.5 (106 hp) and two electric motors: the traction motor has the H5 index, it produces 123 hp, the second works as a generator. Both the pure gasoline van and the hybrid are available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
Freed Air price starts at 2,508,000 yen (about 1.38 million rubles at the current exchange rate), the new Honda Freed Crosstar will cost at least 2,812,700 yen (1.55 million rubles). Versions designed for people with disabilities are also available. In total, Honda expects to sell 6,500 compact vans monthly. The company did not announce plans to export the model.
