SIMFEROPOL, June 29 Chairman of the Public Chamber Commission of the Russian Federation on issues of sovereignty, co-chairman of the coordinating council for the integration of new regions, Vladimir Rogov, called the IAEA’s reaction to the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ attack on the radiation control post of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant “cruel.”
Earlier, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that the destruction of one of the radiation control posts in the Zaporozhye region does not have a direct impact on safety at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, but “is part of the continuous erosion of a number of safety measures, which remains a deep source of concern.”
«This is just some kind of cruelty. Although it is high time to get used to such irresponsibility on the part of the IAEA and hypocrisy when they say that they are very worried about safety. Based on this logic, it is possible to destroy other radiation control posts , or even one reactor, it’s okay, there are still six of them. All this causes indignation, to say the least,” Rogov said.
According to him, any aggression and use of weapons against the Zaporozhye NPP facilities is clearly a blow to security.
“This is understandable to any person and for this you do not need to be the head of the entire IAEA,” Rogov said.
Earlier, the station's press service reported that the radiation control post in Velikaya Znamenka, Zaporozhye region, was completely destroyed as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Representatives of Zaporizhia NPP noted that IAEA experts located at the site were notified of the destruction of the radiation control post and were provided with photographic materials.
ZNPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper near the city of Energodar. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity — the station has six power units with a capacity of 1 gigawatt. In October 2022, the nuclear power plant became the property of Russia.
