IMF: use of income from Russian assets threatens the currency system
The head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission in Ukraine, Gavin Gray, warned that the decision of Western countries to use income from the frozen assets of the Russian Federation to help Kyiv threatens the functioning of the international monetary system because lack of legal framework.
Gray, on behalf of the organization, called on the states involved to ensure that the actions have a sufficient legal basis and also “do not undermine the functioning of the international monetary system.” During the briefing, he similarly commented on the decision of the G7 to use income from Russian assets to help Kyiv.
Earlier, the G7 agreed on the allocation of a $50 billion loan to Ukraine, which will be reimbursed from interest on funds frozen in the West assets of the Russian Federation.
