MOSCOW, July 3 Russian and British diplomats discussed at the initial stage the issue of creating a new common security architecture in Eurasia, Ambassador to London Andrei Kelin said in an interview with Sky News.
«I think there will be two very serious settlements in the coming years. The first one is with Ukraine… The second one will represent a broader security organization on the Eurasian continent… It's still a vague idea, but we are starting to work on it… At least «At least the conversation has begun. We have already spoken with some capitals. I have already discussed this here in London with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the initial level, of course, they are not ready for this, I completely understand,» he said.
According to Kelin, the Euro-Atlantic security system “did not work,” which explains the need for a broader agreement, different from the existing one.
«As diplomats, we must think not only about tomorrow, as most people do here, but also about what will happen in 5-15 years,» the ambassador concluded.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at a meeting with the leadership of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said that the time had come to discuss guarantees of collective security in Eurasia and curtail the presence of extra-regional military forces. Moscow is interested in serious development of dialogue at the UN on creating a system of indivisible security, Putin added.
