The St. Petersburg City Court considered an appeal against the sentence of documentarian Vsevolod Korolev and sentenced him to seven years in a general regime penal colony instead of three, reports the Bumaga correspondent outside the courtroom.
In March, the documentarian was sentenced to three years in a general regime colony in the case of disseminating “fakes” about the Russian army (clause “e” of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code). The prosecutor asked to increase the punishment imposed by the Vyborg District Court to nine years in prison. The defense, in turn, called the charge contrary to the Constitution and called on the court to acquit Korolev.
The Queen was arrested in July 2022. The investigation's claims were prompted by posts from a documentarian on VKontakte: according to the Investigative Committee, Korolev published “false information about the actions of Russian military personnel in Ukraine.” We are talking about the events in Bucha, Borodyanka and Donetsk.
Vsevolod Korolev is an opposition activist; he participated, for example, in rallies in support of Alexei Navalny, and also protested against the war in Ukraine. After the start of the war, Korolev made documentaries about Sasha Skochilenko and Maria Ponomarenko, convicted under articles about military “fakes.”
