The Khoroshevsky District Court of Moscow received a case regarding the dissemination of “fakes” about the army motivated by political hatred (clause “e” of Part 2 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code) against the cartoonist Pavel Muntyan. Mediazona found information about this in the capital’s court database.
Muntyan is the creator of the animated series Mr. Freeman. As the authors of the Baza and Astra telegram channels reported, a criminal case was opened against him because of a post about Bucha, written in April 2022. It said that the Russian military shot 280 residents of the city. At the end of February, the same Khoroshevsky District Court of the capital arrested the cartoonist in absentia.
In December, Muntyan was fined 40 thousand rubles, having been found guilty of “discrediting” the army (Part 1 of Article 20.3.3 of the Administrative Code). A report was drawn up against him because of rapper Legalize’s video “Peace! Yours! Home!” posted on the Mr. channel. Freeman.
In April 2023, the Ministry of Justice declared Pavel Muntyan a “foreign agent.” According to the department, he opposed the Russian invasion of Ukraine and “raised funds in its support.” Since 2014, the animator has lived in Cyprus.
