In Ryazan Colonel Artem Gorodilov, who is under US sanctions due to the war in Ukraine, was detained. This was reported by Kommersant with reference to an unnamed source.
According to the newspaper, this happened as part of a fraud case in an especially large amount< /span> (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code), the details of which are unknown.
FSB military counterintelligence officers brought Gorodilov to Moscow and handed him over to representatives of the Main Military Directorate of the Investigative Committee investigating the case.
Since 2019, Gorodilov has been the commander of the 234th Airborne Assault Regiment, which stationed in Pskov, and at the beginning of a full-scale war it was deployed in Bucha, Kyiv region. The New York Times filmed an investigation into the involvement of paratroopers of the 234th regiment in the killings of civilians and members of the Ukrainian terrorist defense in Bucha.
Later, 39-year-old Gorodilov was appointed commander of the 83rd separate air assault brigade, stationed in Ussuriysk. Kommersant notes that “in the criminal case [the military man] is considered the commander of an air assault regiment.”
