“People of Baikal” reported the transfer to a punishment cell of Ruslan Zinin, who shot at the military commissar of Ust-Ilimsk; lawyers don't confirm this

Ruslan Zinin, who shot at the military commissar of Ust-Ilimsk in 2022, was placed in a punishment cell in Detention Center No. 1 of Irkutsk for the second time this summer. Unnamed acquaintances of the Siberian told People of Baikal about this. Lawyers dealing with Zinin’s conditions of detention did not confirm this information in a conversation with Mediazona.

For the first time, as previously reported, Zinin was sentenced to ten days in a punishment cell on June 18. On this day he had an unsuccessful meeting with his mother. The pretext for the penalty was that he refused to move to another cell.

On June 19, as a sign of protest, Zinin went on a hunger strike and kept it for eight days. As a result, in the pre-trial detention center he was examined and given IV drips.

After this, Zinin was given another fifteen days in the punishment cell for cutting himself. According to the interlocutor of “People of Baikal”, the injury “turned out to be not serious”. =»1″ />Article“Everyone out!” What do we know about the case of Ruslan Zinin, who shot at the Ust-Ilimsk military commissar

In September 2022, shortly after the announcement of mobilization, Zinin came to the military registration and enlistment office of Ust-Ilimsk and shot three times with a sawn-off shotgun at the military commissar Alexander Eliseev, who was speaking in front of the conscripts. After this, the young man spilled flammable liquid in the assembly hall and set it on fire. Zinin said that in this way he wanted to prevent the mobilization of his cousin.

Military Commissar Eliseev was initially taken to intensive care, but was discharged from the hospital six months later. He never returned to duty.

In court, Zinin said that in the first days after his arrest, he was subjected to torture: for two days, he was kept in a cell in shackles that held his arms and legs, and was not allowed to go to the toilet. During the interrogation, according to the young man, the investigator «formulated the answers himself, rather than writing them down from his words,» and the appointed lawyer did not speak to him.

In January, a military court sentenced Ruslan Zinin to 19 years in prison. He was found guilty of committing terrorist attack, illegal manufacturing and storage of weapons. He must spend the first seven years of his sentence in prison, the rest of the term in a maximum security colony. In July, the Military Court of Appeal will begin considering an appeal against the sentence. The prosecutor's office demands an increase in the punishment.
