ASTANA, July 3. Russia and Mongolia at a meeting of heads of state discussed the issue of laying the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline through the territory of the republic, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak.
“We discussed with the Mongolian side the issues of laying the Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline through the territory of the Mongolian Republic, participation in the development of a gas supply scheme,” he told reporters following the meeting of the heads of the two states.
In addition, the parties talked about the Ulaanbaatar railway project, the participation of Russian companies in the Ulaanbaatar Thermal Power Plant-3, as well as the development of the supply of petroleum products to Mongolia. Russia, as Novak clarified, with a share of 95%, is the key supplier of petroleum products to the republic.
«Power of Siberia 2» is a project to supply gas from Russia through Mongolia to China for 50 billion cubic meters per year. At the beginning of 2022, a protocol on the results of consideration of the feasibility study (TES) of the construction project and an agreement for the implementation of design and survey work were signed, as well as an activity plan for the joint working group of the Government of Mongolia and Gazprom for 2022–2024. In March 2023, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that almost all parameters for the project had been agreed upon.
