
MOSCOW, July 3 Unemployment in Russia in May remained at a historical low of 2.6%, according to Rosstat data.
«In May 2024, 2 million people aged 15 years and over were classified as unemployed (according to the methodology of the International Labor Organization). The unemployment rate for the population aged 15 years and over in May 2024 was 2.6% ( without excluding the seasonal factor),” says the Rosstat report. 
The historical minimum of 2.6% was recorded in April 2024.
If in April the total number of unemployed in the country was 1.961 million people, then in May it grew slightly — to 2.005 million people.
As Rosstat notes with reference to Rostrud data, by the end of May 2024, 0.4 million citizens not engaged in labor activity were registered with the employment service agencies, of which 0.4 million people had the status of unemployed, including 0.3 million people receiving unemployment benefits.
When studying employment and unemployment, Rosstat uses the methodology of the International Labor Organization, according to which the unemployed are those who, at the time of the study, simultaneously needed work, were looking for it and were ready to start it. The number of people in the Russian labor force aged 15 and over, according to Rosstat, was 76.1 million in May 2024.
