KRASNODAR, July 4 A court in Kuban sentenced a drunk driver to 12 years in a general regime colony who caused an accident in which a man died on the way from the maternity hospital and his newborn son, the joint press service of the region’s courts reported.
It follows from the court verdict that on August 29, 2022, Vladimir Postovoy got behind the wheel of a VAZ 2170 Priora car while drunk. Moving along the highway towards the city of Slavyansk-on-Kuban, he drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a VAZ 2109 car. As a result of the accident, the driver of the VAZ 2109 and his newborn son died on the spot. The victim's wife and a 6-year-old girl were injured.
Earlier, the press service of the Russian Main Internal Affairs Directorate for the Krasnodar Territory reported that the family was heading home to Slavyansk-on-Kuban after being discharged from the maternity hospital. Investigators of the regional Investigative Committee opened a case on the fact of violation of traffic rules, committed while intoxicated, resulting in the death of two persons through negligence.
«He was sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 12 years in a general regime colony, with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of 3 years. In favor of the victims, the court recovered a sum of money from the convicted person in in the amount of 4,300,000 rubles. The verdict did not enter into legal force,” the message says.
At the court hearing, Postovoy partially admitted his guilt, saying that at the time of the accident it was not he who was driving, but his friend, and he was guilty only of allowing him to get behind the wheel, the press service added.
