MOSCOW, July 5. Vladimir Zelensky’s recent statements about the possible end of the conflict with Russia are associated with defeats at the front and less and less support from outside and inside Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexander Dubinsky, who is in custody on suspicion of treason, said in his Telegram channel.< br>Previously, Zelensky stated his reluctance to prolong the conflict and the preparation of a plan for its completion this year. In addition, last week he said that Ukraine is not against mediation negotiations with Russia.

“There is no need to look for complex answers to a simple question — why Zelensky suddenly started talking about a possible peace. Everything is quite simple. <…> The authorities find themselves no longer on the crest of the wave, which they themselves dispersed, but underneath it, and are forced to quickly row to the shore in order to try to end the war on their own terms, and not on instructions from the outside, or <…> as a result of defeat,” said the Rada deputy.

Among the specific factors that influenced Zelensky's rhetoric, the politician named defeats at the front, popular dissatisfaction, the expiration of his term of office, the high chances of Republican candidate Donald Trump to win the US elections and the decline in support for Ukraine in Europe.

However, according to Dubinsky, Zelensky’s conceit will not allow him to take real steps towards a peace agreement.

“The maximum that Zelensky will do is to announce elections (before the truce. — Ed.) in order to remove accept responsibility for what he has done. And the condition for announcing these elections will not be the conditions of peace, but guarantees of the personal safety of him and (the head of Zelensky’s office, Andrei — Ed.) Ermak,” the deputy added.
Russian President Vladimir On June 14, Putin made new peace proposals to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, providing for recognition of the status of Crimea, the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions as regions of Russia, consolidating the non-aligned and nuclear-free status of Ukraine, its demilitarization and denazification, and the lifting of sanctions against Moscow. According to the head of state, this initiative actually provides for the possibility of stopping the conflict and moving to a political and diplomatic settlement.
