PARIS, July 6 An additional contingent of 5,000 police officers has arrived in the Paris region ahead of the start of the Paris Olympic Games to ensure security during the events, the newspaper Monde writes.
«Over the past few days, 5,000 police officers have been deployed to the Paris region as part of security operations for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris,» the article says.
It is noted that this contingent is expected to increase in number and will form the bulk of the personnel providing security at the opening ceremony. More than half of the law enforcement officers who arrived (approximately 2,700 people) belong to the specialized squads for the suppression of protests (CRS). However, water patrols and mountain units of the gendarmerie are also involved in dismantling the banners.
As previously stated by the prefect of Paris Laurent Nunez, 30 thousand police officers will be involved daily during the entire period of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Olympics in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11, the Paralympics — from August 28 to September 8.
