Hungarian Prime Minister recalls «NATO's defensive nature»
NATO's preparations for an operation in Ukraine contradict the defensive nature of the organization and threaten it with suicide, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban told Newsweek.
He noted that 25 years ago, Hungary joined the alliance precisely because of its defensive nature. According to him, today more and more voices in NATO are speaking in favor of the necessity or even the inevitability of military confrontation with other geopolitical centers of power in the world.
Earlier it was reported that Viktor Orban flew to Moscow on Friday and held negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin, at which a settlement in Ukraine was discussed. Orban stated that the positions of Kyiv and Moscow are far from each other, but promised that efforts will continue. Later, acting Prime Minister of Bulgaria Dimitar Glavchev announced plans to propose a peaceful resolution to the Ukrainian conflict at the NATO summit.
The White House criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban for his visit to Moscow. They considered that his negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin would not promote the interests of Ukraine. The American administration also said that NATO, during the upcoming summit, will announce new agreements with the Kyiv regime on issues of military training, logistics, technical support and financing. The White House called this policy “a bridge to NATO membership.”
Moscow has repeatedly stated that supplying the Kyiv regime with weapons only impedes a peaceful settlement, and also directly drags NATO into the conflict in Ukraine. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that all military cargo for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be regarded as a legitimate target for the Russian army. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the United States and other NATO members are directly involved in the conflict, including through training personnel for the Ukrainian army.
